Sri Lanka’s world cup winning legend Sanath Jayasuriya has resigned from his role as Consultant to Sri Lanka Cricket’s High Performance Centre (HPC), effective from the end of this month, Cricket Age exclusively learns.

Jayasuriya stepped aside from the High Performance Centre role after addressing concerns raised by the newly formed Cricket Transformation Committee (CTC) regarding a potential conflict of interest with his position as President of the Matara District Cricket Association.

In a letter addressed to the newly appointed Cricket Transformation Committee, Jayasuriya said he had become aware that certain members had raised concerns regarding both his appointment to the High Performance Centre and his position as President of the Matara District Cricket Association, citing a possible conflict of interest.

Jayasuriya said he accepted the responsibilities not because he needed employment, but because he was requested to serve Sri Lanka Cricket during a difficult period for the national team.

“Unlike many consultancy roles where involvement may be limited to occasional reviews or remote guidance, I remained actively involved on a daily basis. I worked closely with players, coaches, trainers and support staff, while investing time in understanding players individually, assisting with planning, supporting the coaching structure and contributing directly within the cricket environment. My role was never one of simply observing or offering consultation from a distance” he said in his resignation letter.
