Chennai Super Kings’ playoff hopes are over after consecutive losses to Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dhoni featured in the latter game, which also marked the team’s final home match of the season.
Although Dhoni wasn’t part of the playing XI, he joined the post-match proceedings after the five-wicket defeat, thanking the passionate fans at MA Chidambaram Stadium during a lap of honour.
The report added that whether Dhoni will continue as a cricketer in 2027 is undecided, but the Chennai Super Kings management hopes that Dhoni will be back for the final home match next year.
Chennai Super Kings are sixth in the points table with 12 points from 13 games. While their playoff chances are still alive, they must win their final league game and rely on multiple other results to go their way.
