Ayush Mhatre, the in-form top-order Chennai Super Kings batter, has been ruled out of the remaining Indian Premier League season owing to a left hamstring injury he suffered against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the week. Mhatre’s injury compounds injury concerns for the franchise that’s struggling for consistent results this season.
Mhatre, the Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, underwent scans here on Monday (April 20) after CSK arrived to take on the Mumbai Indians on Thursday (April 23, 2026) in one of the most anticipated IPL clashes every season. A statement issued by the Chennai Super Kings confirmed that Mhatre’s rehabilitation will take “six to 12 weeks”.
It effectively means that Chennai Super Kings, with two wins from six outings so far, will have to rope in a replacement for one of its highest run-getter of the season. With 201 runs from six innings at an impressive strike rate of 177.87, Mhatre has been the most consistent and effective CSK batter so far.
