Cameron Green controversy: Rahane unhappy, Cricket Australia says KKR ‘fully aware’

Written by Praveen CA

Cameron Green, the costliest overseas player ever signed at an IPL auction, is at the centre of attention. And not just because of his astronomical price tag. The Aussie allrounder didn’t bowl a single over in his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders’ defeat to Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash held at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night.

And it has led to the inevitable question: Why KKR splurged a whopping Rs 25.2 crore on an allrounder who cannot contribute with his bowling?

On Sunday, after KKR failed to defend 224 against MI, Rahane was asked why Green didn’t bowl during the contest. And without missing a beat, the KKR captain responded: “That question you need to ask Cricket Australia.”

He indicated that it’s CA who may have asked Green to refrain from bowling.

Now, CA has responded and claimed that Green has a lower back injury which requires him to abstain from bowling for a “short period”, which KKR are fully aware about.

“Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period,” a CA spokesperson said on Monday.

“Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days’ time. KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information,” the spokesperson added.

Making his KKR debut on Sunday night, Green batted at no. 3 and got the start before holing out for a 10-ball 18 as the three-time champions posted 220/4.
