India To Wait For Washington Sundar’s Recovery, No Update On Harshit Rana’s Injury

Written by Rohit Pawar

Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar is part of India‘s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad but is unlikely to be available for the team’s first Group A match against the United States of America. According to a report in Cricbuzz on Thursday (February 5), the senior men’s selection committee is all set to wait for the Tamil Nadu-based cricketer, as there is no information of the Ajit Agarkar-led senior men’s selection committee looking for his replacement.

Sundar, who has scored 254 runs and picked up 51 wickets in 55 T20I matches for India so far, last played for India in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on January 11. In that fixture, he suffered an injury while bowling.

According to available information, Indian selectors are waiting for the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to provide more details on Sundar’s recovery, but as of February 5, the 26-year-old cricketer is part of Indian team management’s plans for the T20 World Cup 2026.

“How long the team management and selectors will wait is not clear, but as of now they are in no rush to replace the Tamil Nadu all-rounder. Evidently, the final decision will depend on the advice of the trainers and physios of CoE, and they do not seem to have given up hope of Sundar’s readiness for the marquee event as yet,” the report read.

India faced South Africa in their T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up match in Navi Mumbai on February 4, and in that fixture, fast bowler Harshit Rana left the field after bowling just one over. Harshit’s limited participation with the ball raised question marks over his fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, but as per Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and selectors have no information of any serious injury to Rana.

India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2026: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh
