The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected the accreditation applications for hundreds of Bangladeshi journalists. According to the Daily Star, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that about 150 scribes had applied for accreditation, but none received it.
The accreditation is an important identity card for a journalist, allowing them access to the media box, press conference rooms and other areas of concern at a venue. The ICC opens applications for a tournament beforehand, and each journalist is required to mention the name and place of their organisation. The world body holds the ultimate authority on accepting these applications, with certain rules applicable to all.
“As far as I know, all Bangladeshi journalists were rejected. Around 130 to 150 journalists applied this year, but none received accreditation,” the report quoted BCB media committee chairman Amzad Hossain as saying.
Bangladesh will not play the T20 World Cup after a late omission.
