Steve Smith is now sixth in the list of batters with the most 100s in Test cricket. The legendary right-handed batter from Australia scored his 37th Test century on Tuesday (January 6) to go past former India skipper and head coach Rahul Dravid’s tally of 36 centuries. Dravid played a total of 164 red-ball matches from 1996 to 2012 and crossed the 100-run mark 36 times, whereas 36-year-old Smith, who was born in Sydney, has scored one more century than him in just his 123rd Test.
Smith completed his 37th Test century by running three runs on the second ball of the 110th over of Australia’s first innings bowled by Jacob Bethell.
The Australian skipper is the third player after Joe Root of England and Australia’s Travis Head to score a century in the ongoing fifth and final Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series.
Smith needed 166 balls on Tuesday to reach the 100-run mark, and he has hammered 11 fours and one six so far.
Only five batters – Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), Joe Root (41), Ricky Ponting (41) and Kumar Sangakkara (39) – are now ahead of Smith in the list of cricketers with the most 100s in Tests.
mith’s first century of the ongoing Ashes series has also helped him become the sole owner of the No. 2 position in the list of batters with the most 100s in Ashes. He was previously tied with England legend Jack Hobbs, but now he owns the No. 2 position with 13 centuries to his credit in 41 Ashes Tests.
Only Don Bradman has slammed more 100s in Ashes than Smith.
