The Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed former administrator K. Mathivanan’s petition against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), mainly challenging the legitimacy of the 2025-2027 SLC election, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.
K. Mathivanan, a former SLC Vice President, had filed a significant Fundamental Rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court challenging the legitimacy of the 2025-2027 SLC election, alleging violations of the Sports Law and SLC Constitution, seeking annulment of the current office bearers, including President Shammi Silva, and demanding fresh elections due to improper gazetting and election manipulation.
The main allegation was that the 2025-2027 SLC election was invalid because it was convened under an unapproved gazette notification and involved systemic irregularities.
However, the Supreme Court, in Its first hearing today itself, deemed Mathivanan’s petition inappropriate, citing neither it was seconded or proposed by an affiliated club or association. The Supreme Court, while dismissing the petition, pointed out that K. Mathivanan or anyone else from his camp didn’t even file the nomination for the said SLC election.
The petitioner, K. Mathivanan, was represented by Saliya Peiris PC. Representing SLC and its Executive Committee were Dr. Romesh de Silva PC, appearing with Niran Anketell and Wasanthakumar Niles, instructed by Sanjay Fonseka.
