Ravindra Jadeja returns to ODI squad as India rest Axar Patel

Written by Shreyas Vyas

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa on Sunday.

The three ODI matches will be played in Ranchi, Raipur and Visakhapatnam, whereas Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow and Ahmedabad will host the five T20I matches next month.

Shubman Gill was appointed as India’s new ODI captain on October 4, and he made his ODI captaincy debut during the three-match series in Australia last month. But thanks to a neck injury that he suffered on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa last week, there is doubt over his availability for the ODI series against the Proteas.

KL Rahul will lead India in the absence of Shubman Gil in the upcoming ODI series, starting November 30. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in India’s 15-man squad, which features Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is also out of action due to an injury that he suffered while fielding in the third India-Australia ODI, and he is all set to be rested for the home series.

Ravindra Jadeja’s ODI journey is far from over. The experienced all-rounder has made his return to India’s 50-over setup after being named in the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa, announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 23, Saturday. The squad was finalised after a special selection meeting in Mumbai, and Jadeja’s recall has instantly become one of the biggest talking points ahead of the series.
