No more experiments: Aakash Chopra’s advice to India after Australia T20I series win

In the last two assignments, among the major experiments have been Shubman Gill’s reintroduction to the format as a vice-captain, Sanju Samson batting in various positions and rotation of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.

While previewing the upcoming matches on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra feels it is time that the Indian team give a sustained run of games to a set of individuals in their preferred roles to avoid any unnecessary mix-up when it is crunch time.

“It is the period of experiments and they have openly admitted it. We agree, you can do it all you want. Now that this five-match series is over, you only have 5 home T20Is vs South Africa and New Zealand each and I think the time for experimentation is over. We are done,” he said.

“They cannot experiment anymore and they should not either. Because the [T20] World Cup begins in February and we are the defending champions in a good run of form but let’s not be complacent — winning a home World Cup is not easy. There is a lot of pressure — now play the team closest to your best XI for the tournament,” he added.

India’s five-match T20I series against South Africa will be played from December 9 to 19, after the end of two Tests and three ODIs. Their final assignment before the T20 World Cup will be from January 19 to 31 against the touring New Zealand.
