During India’s first Twenty20 International match against Australia in Canberra on Wednesday, SKY proved it once again. The dynamic Indian batter reached a historic milestone by hitting 150 T20I sixes, becoming only the second Indian (after Rohit Sharma) and the fifth player overall to achieve the feat.
In the tenth over, Suryakumar reached the milestone with a powerful slog off Nathan Ellis’ delivery, as India continued to applying pressure on the Australians.
Most Sixes in T20s career
1. Rohit Sharma (IND) 205 Sixes
2. Muhammad Waseem (UAE) 187 Sixes
3. Martin Guptill (NZ) 173 Sixes
4. Jos Buttler (ENG) 172 Sixes
5. Suryakumar Yadav (IND) 150 Sixes
SKY went on a rampage against Ellis, hitting the pacer for two fours and a six off back-to-back deliveries.
His assault also helped him and Gill build an incredible 62-run partnership in just 35 balls, which anchored India’s innings and propelling them to a formidable 97/1 at 9.4 overs before rain halted play once again.
Earlier, India had reached 43 for 1 in five overs when a persistent drizzle stopped play, reducing the contest to 18 overs per side. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 19 after getting a solid start.
After hitting four boundaries, Abhishek failed to clear the mid-off fielder and was caught off the bowling of Nathan Ellis.
Vice-captain Shubman Gill, on 16, and Suryakumar Yadav, on 8, were at the crease when the Indian skipper smashed a magnificent six over square leg – moments before rain interrupted play again.
