The Indian men’s cricket team won the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup by getting the better of arch-rivals Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final played on September 28 in Dubai. In the summit clash, India chased down the target of 147 runs in 19.4 overs for the loss of five wickets. Despite winning all seven matches in the tournament, the Indian team was not allowed to take the trophy home. After the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and minister in the Pakistani government, he left the stadium with the trophy and still hasn’t returned it to India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote an official email to him earlier this week to send the Asia Cup trophy to India, but he replied by suggesting to arrange a ceremony in the first week of November and asked at least one Indian player to come and collect the trophy from him.
Amid the Asia Cup trophy, a fresh development has emerged that the Asia Cup trophy has been moved from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters in Dubai to a different location in Abu Dhabi.
According to the available information, a BCCI official visited the ACC headquarters last week, but he was told that the trophy is now in Abu Dhabi.
Naqvi had set a condition for its return, saying India could collect it from him at the ACC office.
An ACC meeting at the end of September saw reports that Naqvi apologised to the BCCI, but he later denied these reports. No formal decision was made during the ACC meeting regarding the trophy handover to India.
