Legendary India leg spinner Anil Kumble has said that star batter Shubman Gill has shown great maturity and composure after being given team’s captaincy. Gill has been appointed India captain for both Tests and ODIs in the last six months, taking over the reins from Rohit Sharma. The star batter has been phenomenal with the bat ever since being awarded the leadership as he slammed his fifth century as captain on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies in Delhi.
The 26-year-old played a remarkable innings of 129* (196), with the help of 16 fours and two sixes taking India to a massive score of 518/5. Following his marvelous knock, Anil Kumble was delighted with Gill for his prolific run with the bat as captain.
Captaining India is never easy. It’s not just about on-field decisions but also handling several responsibilities off it, and Shubman has done exceptionally well. On the field, he’s been outstanding, and as a batter, he’s shown great composure since taking over the captaincy. Today, was no different,” said Kumble on JioHotstar.
Furthermore, he also hailed Gill for reading the situation perfectly and increasing his scoring rate accordingly. He also stated that Gill scoring well early in his captaincy career bodes well for India’s future.
