ICC Test rankings: Siraj rises to career-best spot, Yashasvi slips out of top 5

Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj inched closer to the top 10 in ICC Test rankings for bowlers after a match-winning performance in the first Test of a two-match series against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Siraj rose three spots to No. 12 in the latest rankings, updated on Wednesday, October 8.

On the other hand, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has slipped out of the top 5 of the ICC Test rankings for batters. He has gone from No. 5 to No. 7 after a rare failure in the season opener in Ahmedabad.

Siraj carried forward his impressive form from the England tour, claiming figures of four for 40 and three for 31, which propelled him three places to a career-best 12th position and above the 700-point mark for the first time in his career. India clinched a commanding win over the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, finishing the Test in less than three days.

Siraj shone in both innings, ending his long wait for a second innings-wicket in home conditions. The Hyderabad fast bowler outbowled Jasprit Bumrah, who did not look 100 percent in Ahmedabad. Bumrah, however, continues to lead the bowling charts.

Siraj made a stirring comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy earlier this year, picking 23 wickets after playing all five Tests. He led the attack in Bumrah’s absence in the deciding final Test at the Oval Test and bowled India to a historic victory.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja is slowly but steadily climbing the batting charts. The all-rounder has risen to a career-best No. 25 in the Test batting charts. The 36-year-old hit an unbeaten 104 in India’s only innings against the West Indies in Ahmedabad.

Jadeja had previously reached a career-high of 29th in July this year after a productive series in England where he scored 516 runs in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Jadeja’s contribution with the ball was equally impressive in Ahmedabad. His four wickets in the West Indies’ second innings have helped him extend his lead atop the all-rounders’ table, now 125 points ahead of Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan.

Other notable gainers from the Indian team include K.L. Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, who have both climbed the batting rankings after registering centuries. Rahul has moved up four places to 35th, while Jurel surged 20 places to 65th following his maiden Test century.
