The cricket teams of India and Pakistan are set to clash on the field for the first time since the conflict between the two nations in wake of terrorist attack in Pahalgam earlier this year. The two teams will lock horns on Sunday (September 14) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the 2025 Asia Cup.
Tensions will run high given the backdrop and India captain Suryakumar Yadav has promised aggression from his team.
“Aggression is always there when we take the field. Without aggression, I don’t think you can play the sport. I am very excited to take the field from tomorrow,” Suryakumar said during a captains’ meet ahead of the tournament opener between Afghanistan and Hong Kong on Tuesday.
Pakistan captain Salman Agha echoed the sentiments of his India counterpart and said he won’t stop his players from being aggressive as long as the sentiment is limited to the field and not off it.
Suryakumar said his team is in a good place after undergoing extensive practice sessions.
“We have got few practice sessions. Feels good. It will be a good challenge playing best teams from Asia Cup,” he said.
India will start their campaign against minnows UAE, a team coached by Lalchand Rajput.
“They are playing exciting brand of cricket and came close in some of the games in a (recent) tri-series. Hope they cross the line in the Asia Cup,” he said.
