ODI captain Pat Cummins will not play in the home series against India next month. Cricket Australia confirmed the news of Cummins’ absence for the three ODIs and five T20Is against India in Australia next month due to an injury.

The Indian men’s cricket team will travel to Australia next month for eight white-ball matches, and the assignment is scheduled to start on October 19 in Perth with the ODI series.

According to cricket.com.au, “Australia’s preparation for this summer’s Ashes defence has been dealt a significant blow with confirmation captain Pat Cummins has suffered an injury setback.”

“Cricket Australia today confirmed Cummins would not feature in any of the upcoming white-ball matches against New Zealand or India, as a lower-back flare-up risks jeopardising his preparation for, and potentially his participation in, this summer’s marquee series against England,” the release added.

Cummins last played a competitive match (Test) against the West Indies team in July 2025 in Kingston, and his last white-ball appearance (ODI) for Australia was against Pakistan in Adelaide on November 8, 2024. Cummins hasn’t played a T20I match for Australia since taking the field against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 match at Gros Islet on June 24.
