Not even in my dreams I thought I would lead India in Tests: Shubman Gill

Written by Abhishek Patil

Shubman Gill has revealed that he never dreamt of leading India one day ahead of his first assignment as the new skipper of the Test team. Gill took over as the captain in the longest format of the game from Rohit Sharma as he announced his retirement from Tests. Gill and Co. left for England on Thursday, June 4, and he had a press conference alongside coach Gautam Gambhir.

The BCCI shared a video of Gill getting ready for the press conference and sharing his thoughts before facing the media. The 25-year-old was all smiles and admitted that there would be a few questions from the media that can bowl him over. After this, he shared his view about taking up captaincy for the Indian team and said he always dreamed about being a performer for the Indian team with the bat and not being a leader.

“Whenever I dreamt, I dreamt of playing for India and performing for India and doing whatever I can as a batter to win matches by my performance, by scoring. Not even in my dreams, I thought one day, I want to be the captain, and I want to lead India. But I think as you keep growing older, you keep playing and then you start to understand the role of leadership and leaders. But when I was younger, I just thought I want to play for India, I want to win matches for India,” said Gill.
