Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has said that if Rishabh Pant thinks that mentally he is not feeling right about his game, he can always pick up his phone and speak to anyone he wants to, adding that if he sees MS Dhoni as his mentor, he can always contact the former India captain and speak to him.
Pant perished for only 18 runs during the Lucknow Super Giants’ 37-run defeat to the Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, May 4.
Sehwag advised Pant to watch videos of himself when he was in full flow and also to ask for help from the people whom he looks up to.
“According to me, he should watch videos of himself batting when he used to make runs in the IPL. You get confidence from watching that, you remember how you used to go about your innings,” Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
“He has a phone. He can pick that up and call whoever he wants. If he feels that mentally he is not thinking right, then so many cricketers can help him. If he considers Dhoni as his role model, then he should talk to him,” Sehwag said.
Pant has scored just 128 runs in 11 games at a dismal average of 12.8. Lucknow are losing their way in the campaign since the captain’s form isn’t picking up, while Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran aren’t able to chip in either.
A dejected Lucknow captain Pant is still dreaming of sneaking into the Indian Premier League play-offs with three victories in the remaining three matches despite another poor batting effort by the top-order in their 37-run loss to the Punjab Kings.
