Abhishek can play all 3 formats for India like Jaiswal: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan has tipped Abhishek Sharma to follow in the footsteps of Yashasvi Jaiswal and break into India’s sides in all three formats of the game following his stellar run in IPL 2024. Abhishek was one of the star players for SRH this season and has been a revelation with the bat at the top of the order. Abhishek scored 66 off 28 to help SRH win against PBKS on May 19 to seal the second spot.

After the win, while speaking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan pointed out to the success story of Jaiswal and how he jumped through the ranks into the Indian team. Vaughan said that Abhishek is technically very sound and his bat swing has a bit of Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh attached to it.

“If you go back to the story of Yashasvi Jaiswal, he jumped the rails quickly through the IPL and the Indian side. Been a revelation in Test match cricket. Probably early to say this, but Abhishek could do exactly the same.”

“He could easily do the same across all three formats. His technical side is excellent. He has got Brian Lara-esque and Yuvraj Singh-type swing of the willow.”

“Yashasvi has been a wonderful story, you don’t see many like that. Just arrive on the international stage and look like they have been playing for 15 years. But I think Abhishek isn’t far off,” said Vaughan.

Abhishek, with his 6 sixes against PBKS, broke Virat Kohli’s record for the most sixes by an Indian batter in an IPL season. Vaughan was in awe of the record achieved by the young batter and hailed it as fantastic.

“When you think about how much talent has and how many great Indian batters are there in the IPL and he is top of the tree. Fantastic,” said Vaughan.
