Rishabh Pant banned for one match, set to miss crucial RCB clash

DC captain Rishabh Pant has been suspended for one match and fined INR 30 Lakh for his team’s over-rate offence in the match against RR. Pant has been fined and suspended for one match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024.

This means that Pant will miss DC’s crucial match vs RCB on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It needs to be noted that DC are still alive in the Indian Premier League and a loss will mean that they get knocked out of the tournament.

“As per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the ruling of the Match Referee. Following this, the appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and affirmed that the decision of the Match Referee remains final and binding,” the BCCI said in their press release.

Pant has been crucial to DC’s revival this season, especially after a poor start. With the help of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Jake Fraser-McGurk, DC have turned out to be one of the most exciting teams to watch in both aspects of the game. Pant has shouldered his troops brilliantly, the peak of which was seen in their away game against GT. Pant’s masterful captaincy helped DC bowl out GT for just 89 runs, which earned Pant the player for the match award.

DC are currently in the 5th spot in the league table and are tied in points with CSK and LSG. DC have two games left, one against RCB and one against LSG.
