Sanju Samson batting like a dream in IPL 2024: Matthew Hayden

Former Australia cricketer Matthew Hayden lauded Sanju Samson for being one of the most complete batters in the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Speaking on Star Sports after the DC vs RR match, Hayden called Samson the ‘master blaster’ of the tournament for playing spin and pace with equal ease.

Samson has been in tremendous form in IPL 2024, hitting 471 runs from 11 matches. He is third on the Orange Cap list behind Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad but has a much higher strike rate. Against DC, Samson almost pulled off a miraculous heist but got out via a controversial dismissal when he was batting at 85 off just 46 balls.

Hayden took to Star Sports to laud the batter and said that Samson has proven his worth time and again but needs a little bit of luck.

“Sanju Samson was batting like a dream, scoring 86 off 46 balls. He’s proven his worth time and again, winning matches for his team like he did against LSG. However, he’ll be disappointed he couldn’t carry Rajasthan across the finish line. Throughout the tournament, he’s been a master blaster, handling both spin and pace with finesse. He times his innings well. He’s got the power. And the power is a big thing in T20 cricket. Yet, what stands out is his commitment to his team. He just needed a bit of luck, especially towards the end of the match,” Hayden said on Star Sports after the match.

Despite the loss against DC, Samson’s RR are currently in the 2nd spot in the league table. They are equal in points (16 off 11) with KKR and are only behind in the NRR. RR are primed to finish at the top 2 positions in the league table and have 3 matches left in the group stage. RR will take on CSK, PBKS and KKR in their final group stage matches in the Indian Premier League.
