Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka on Tuesday announced Amul, one of India’s iconic diary brands with a global footprint, as their sponsor for the T20 World Cup 2024, starting June 2 in the USA and the West Indies. Sri Lanka, former champions of the T20 World Cup, will become the third team after South Africa and USA to be sponsored by Amul at the showpiece T20 tournament.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to announce the appointment of Amul, a leading Indian milk producer with international presence, as the ‘Official Sponsor’ of the Sri Lanka Men’s Team for the duration of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” Sri Lanka said in a statement.

The partnerships mark a significant milestone for Amul, as it continues to expand its global footprint in the sporting arena. Amul has a history of sponsoring cricket teams during ICC tournaments, having previously collaborated with the New Zealand and the Netherlands national sides for the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2011 Cricket World Cup, respectively. Additionally, Amul was one of the sponsors of the Women’s Premier League in its inaugural edition.

Amul had also been the principal sponsor of the Afghanistan men’s cricket team during the ODI World Cup in India last year.

Notably, two of India’s top dairy brands, Amul and Nandini, are making sure their presence is felt in the T20 World Cup. The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States of America for the first time. Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), known for its Nandini brand of dairy products, will sponsor Ireland and Scotland cricket teams in the tournament.

The T20 World Cup will be played across 3 venues in the USA – New York, Dallas, and Florida. As many as 6 venues have been picked in the West Indies with Barbados hosting the final on June 26.

USA will play the opener against canada on June 2 in Dallas. Sri Lanka will open their campaign against South Africa on June 3 in New York.
