Skipper Rohit Sharma and Chairman of Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar will hold a press conference for the T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday, May 2. The headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai will host the presser. Rohit and Agarkar will face questions from the media about their squad selection for the tournament.

On Tuesday, April 30, the BCCI named a strong 15-member squad for the mega event to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). Rohit Sharma will lead the team with all-rounder Hardik Pandya as his deputy.

Rishabh Pant has found his place back in the national setup after staying out of the team since December 2022, when he sustained multiple injuries in a car accident. Pant recently returned to competitive cricket for the Delhi team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shivam Dube, who is currently being deemed as the best player of spin bowling in India, was included in the squad. However, Rinku Singh, who has been a revelation in T20 cricket in the last months, was picked as one of the travelling reserves and could not fit into the main squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal, mysteriously, missed out on playing in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups, but he got third time lucky. Chahal recently became the first bowler with 200 wickets in the IPL. Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are the other spin-bowling options for India along with Chahal.

The likes of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill could not make it into the main squad. But Shubman was included as one of the reserves.
