Written by Mohan Sharma

The selectors are going to have a hard time when they meet later this month to finalise India’s 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup considering the wealth of options at their disposal. Be it the established stars or those on the fringes, there have been plenty of eye-catching performances in the ongoing IPL 2024 and the pressure will be on the Ajit Agarkar-led panel.

India spin legend Harbhajan Singh has now advised the Indian selectors to pick Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson hinting he should be their first-choice for the wicketkeeper-batter’s role for the T20 World Cup.

While lauding Yashasvi Jaiswal for returning to form with a blistering hundred against Mumbai Indians on Monday night, Harbhajan also added that Samson should be groomed as the next India T20I captain once Rohit Sharma steps away.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock is a proof of class is permanent. Form is temporary @ybj_19 and there shouldn’t be any debate about Keeper batsman. @IamSanjuSamson should walks in to the Indian team for T20 world cup and also groomed as a next T20 captain for India after rohit. koi shak???” Harbhajan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Samson has been in terrific form with the bat in the ongoing IPL. While batting at the no. 3 spot, he has scored 314 runs from eight innings at a strike-rate of 152.43.
