Shivam Dube not making it to World Cup will be hugely disappointing: Irfan Pathan

Written by Toshi Pawar

CSK’s Shivam Dube has been in terrific form in the Indian Premier League 2024. Dube played a stunning innings of 66* off just 38 balls to help CSK reach a total of 206 runs. The innings helped CSK win their first game away from home this season and grab a crucial victory against Mumbai, at the Wankhede Stadium.

Dube has scored 242 runs already from six matches in IPL 2024 at a massive strike-rate of 163.51. Dube has majorly operated in the middle-overs as a spin hitter, but while playing against MI showed an added dimension where he punished the fast bowlers. Speaking about the batter, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan gave his vote of confidence to Dube for a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024.

“I have never seen anyone of hitting ability of Shivam Dube among the current Indian players. When it comes to batting in the middle-overs, Shivam Dube is the best and I will be highly disappointed if he does not make it to the T20 World Cup 2024. In so many World Cups, we have missed a guy like Yuvraj Singh, you know who can hit a half-century in 16-17 balls. Shivam Dube is a kind of guy who can hit a ball from the first go. I have seen anything like that,” Irfan Pathan said in a virtual press conference arranged by Star Sports.

“Hardik’s hitting ability has gone down and that is why people have started considering Shivam Dube. It is possible that both make it to the World Cup, but I am very excited about Shivam Dube,” Irfan Pathan concluded.

India are expected to finalise their squad of the T20 World Cup around April end. Dube will be in the running for a spot in the middle-oder alongside the likes of Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel among others.
