I see Rohit Sharma going to CSK in IPL 2025, replace MS Dhoni: Michael Vaughan

Written by Rohit Pawar

Former England captain Michael Vaughan said he has a feeling that Rohit Sharma will play for Chennai in IPL 2025 and that Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stint as CSK captain might be only for 2024. Vaughan said Rohit might be the ideal replacement for someone like MS Dhoni when the Super Kings look to continue their rich legacy after the mega auction in 2025. All eyes will be on the mega auction as IPL 2025 is expected to mark the start of a new era in the cash-rich T20 league.

Michael Vaughan’s comments come even as speculation about MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL is rife. Dhoni hinted last year that IPL 2024 might be his last season as a player. On the eve of CSK’s IPL 2024 opener against RCB, Dhoni stepped down as captain and handed over the reins to young opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“I think he will go to Chennai, replace MS Dhoni. Gaikwad is doing it this year. Do you think it’s just a holding job? May be Rohit next year?” Vaughan told YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in a podcast show.

“I see him in Chennai. I seem him there. If he were to captain Chennai and came to Mumbai, will he get booed?” Vaughan asked, adding that he has a feeling that Rohit would be headed to CSK next year.

CSK answered the big question about their succession plan by handing over the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been one of their consistent performers since the 2021 season. Under Ruturaj, CSK have won 3 of their first 5 matches, maintaining a perfect record at home in Chennai.
