Mitchell Starc will turn it around: Aakash Chopra

Written by Toshi Pawar

Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes that Kolkata’s Mitchell Starc will bounce back into his usual good form with the ball in his side’s upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Delhi on March 4. Since becoming the costliest purchase in the tournament’s history during the IPL 2024 auction, Starc has been under the spotlight of fans and former cricket greats alike for the current season of the tournament. Starc has not enjoyed the best of form since the beginning of the IPL 2024 campaign, which has seen him concede big runs without having picked a single wicket.

Starc conceded 100 runs in Kolkata’s first two IPL 2024 matches, and was not able to get off the mark on his wicket tally. Despite Kolkata boasting a perfect record on the points table so far this season, Starc’s dismal form has been a point of concern amongst the fans of the franchise.

“One of the players I will pick today is Mitchell Starc because he has conceded 100 runs in two matches. It can’t happen that he concedes 50-odd runs every time. He will have Prithvi Shaw and David Warner in front of him. Prithvi Shaw – incoming ball,” Chopra said.

Chopra further acknowledged Starc’s phenomenal bowling prowess, while backing him to bounce back in this season.

“So, I am very curious and excited to see what Mitchell Starc does on this ground and pitch. I feel he will do well. I feel Mitchell Starc will turn it around. He has looked like a pale bowler thus far, but he is too good a player to be pale for too long. So my focus will be on him,” Chopra added.

Kolkata will be facing a highly confident Delhi side at the ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, who defeated Chennai in their previous match.
