Steve Smith has shown confidence in his Australian teammate, Pat Cummins, to do a great job as the captain of the SunRisers Hyderabad in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024. Smith reckoned that Cummins has proven his credentials as a great captain with a tendency to lead a team well.

Cummins replaced Aiden Markram as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 4, Monday less than a month away from the 2024 edition of the IPL. Cummins was roped in for a whopping price of Rs 20.50 crore by the franchise during the IPL 2024 auction as he became the second most expensive buy in the history of the cash-rich league. Along with the change in captaincy, SRH also announced Daniel Vettori as their new head coach. Vettori took over the coaching duties from Brian Lara, who had earlier replaced Tom Moody in 2023.

“I think he’ll do a great job for Hyderabad while working with Daniel Vettori (SRH head coach). They’ve got a great rapport as they worked together in Australia when Dan was the assistant coach,” PTI quoted Smith as saying.

“And yeah, he seems to play extremely well when he’s got a leadership role as well. So, I am looking forward to seeing how Hyderabad fares this year,” he added.
