Domestic experience shows: Kumble lauds Jurel’s gritty knock in Ranchi

Former India captain Anil Kumble heaped praise on Dhruv Jurel, saying his domestic experience showed against England in the fourth Test. Jurel scored a brilliant 90 to guide India to 307 runs in their first innings at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi.

Jurel scored a gritty 90 off 149 deliveries, hitting six boundaries and four sixes in Ranchi. He walked in to bat when India were reeling at 161 for 5, having lost the wicket of in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Agra-born wicket-keeping batter stitched crucial partnerships, first with Kuldeep Yadav and then with Akash Deep to steer India out of trouble.

Jurel made an impressive start to his Test career, scoring 46 in Rajkot before smashing 90 runs against England in Ranchi.

“Jurel has done well in domestic cricket and deservedly gone into the Indian team. Scroing runs in domestic cricket shows. It shows in Dhruv Jurel, it shows in Sarfaraz Khan in the kind of spinners that they face at the domestic level and the ease at which they are on any kind of surface, especially against spin,” said Kumble.
