Sri Lanka name squad for Afghanistan T20I series, Binura Fernando replaces injured Dushmantha Chameera

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Monday announced the 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga will captain the side with Charith Asalanka as his deputy. 

Accordingly, the following squad was appointed by the SLC Selection Committee, with the approval of Sports Minister Harin Fernando:

1. Wanindu Hasaranga – Captain 

2. Charith Asalanka – Vice Captain 

3. Pathum Nissanka 

4. Kusal Mendis 

5. Dhananjaya De Silva 

6. Kusal Janith Perera 

7. Angelo Mathews 

8. Dasun Shanaka 

9. Maheesh Theekshana 

10. Binura Fernando 

11. Matheesha Pathirana 

12. Dilshan Madushanka 

13. Nuwan Thushara 

14. Akila Dananjaya 

15. Kamindu Mendis 

16. Sadeera Samarawickrama

Issuing a statement, the SLC noted that although Dushmantha Chameera was selected for the squad, he was subsequently replaced by Binura Fernando as he is still recovering from the injury he sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan.

The upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on 17, 18 and 21 February.
