India captain Rohit Sharma lauded pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his incredible effort in Vizag Test match. Bumrah picked 9 wickets in the game on a track that had barely any help for the fast bowlers throughout the game. With barely any aid from the pitch, Bumrah brought out ‘reverse swing’ and ‘change-ups’ from his repertoire and put them to good use in Vizag.

India defeated England by 106 runs in the second Test match of the series to make a stunning comeback. India dominated with the ball in the final innings of the game in Vizag and bowled out the Ben Stokes’ side at the stroke of Tea on Day 4.

On Monday, India looked impressive in the field with captain Rohit Sharma picking up a sharp catch and Shreyas Iyer affecting a sensational run-out of the England captain. Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin were pick of the bowlers on Monday, 5 February as the duo dismantled the visiting team.

“He (Jasprit Bumrah) is a champion player for us. he has been a while. He keeps doing the job for the team. When you win a game like that, you have to look at the overall performance as well. We were good with the bat. You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy. We wanted our bowlers to step up and they did that,” Rohit Sharma said in the post match presentation.

Sharma lauded the youngsters in the side for stepping up in the second Test match of the series. India had a weakened side for the second Test, where they did not have the services of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who were ruled out due to injuries. India also lacked the services of Virat Kohli.

Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal (209) and Shubman Gill (104) stepped up in either innings to give India a bulk of runs to defend (399) and the rest of the work was done by Jasprit Bumrah who picked 9 wickets in the game.

“He (Yashasvi Jaiswal) looks like a good player, understands his game really well. Long way to go for him, has got a lot to offer for our team. That was an exceptional long, what he did on Day 1, and hope he stays humble and focuses on what is needed for the team,” Sharma said about the young team.

The only criticism that Rohit had on the India batters was that they threw away their starts. Sharma, however, added that this was a young team and needed time to gain experience.

“The wicket was really good to bat on. If I have to point anything, lot of the batters got starts but couldn’t get big score. But I understand they’re young and new to the game. Important for us to give them confidence. Very proud of such a young squad to come up against a team like that. Lot of the guys are quite young in terms of playing this form of the game. It’ll take some time to be absolutely spot on. Want them to play freely without any pressure,” Sharma said.
