The IPL Auction 2024 has come to an end with 72 players being sold on a frenetic day of bidding from all 10 teams involved in the event.

All the teams were able to fill up their squads for the upcoming season with some big names getting a huge pay-day. The Australian contingent were left with a grin on their face as the reigning ODI World Cup champions were amongst the big-earners on the day.

The record for the costliest player in the history of IPL auctions was broken twice during the day as some of the uncapped stars were also able to bag big money at the end of the day.

With that let’s take a look at all the top 10 buys of the IPL Auction 2024.

KKR fended off competition from Gujarat Titans on the day as both teams went at it to get the services of Mitchell Starc. The Aussie pacer’s name was brought to the bidding and immediately garnered interest from the likes of Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.

KKR and GT would take over and take it past the 20 crore mark and the two-time IPL Champions ended up with their man for the record amount.

Pat Cummins (SRH for Rs. 20 crore)

Another name that was expected to go for big money, Cummins was the subject of a major bidding war between SRH and RCB. With the Hyderabad side having the bigger purse, they were able to flex their muscles a bit and were adamant on getting the Australian skipper.

Cummins went on to break Sam Curran’s record for the costliest player in the auction history by that time and became the first player to breach the 20 crore barrier.

Daryl Mitchell (CSK for Rs. 14 crore)

Daryl Mitchell was somewhat of a surprise buy for CSK as they weren’t in the running for the New Zealand all-rounder till the very end. It was PBKS and DC who were battling it out for Mitchell’s signature and it seemed like the Mohali-based side were about to get their man.

Chennai would enter the fray and landed their man for 14 crores.

Harshal Patel (PBKS for Rs. 11.75 crore)

Harshal Patel has found a new home in the IPL as he went to PBKS for a whopping 11.75 crore as the pacer became the costliest Indian player in the 2024 auction. Gujarat Titans had started the bidding for Harshal before Punjab swooped in for his services.

They were given a late run for the money by LSG, but held on to get their man in the end.

Alzarri Joseph (RCB for Rs. 11.5 crore)

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) shelled out INR 11.50 crore for West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph in the auction.

CSK had started the bidding for the West Indian pacer, before LSG and RCB took over. Bangalore would hang on to make Joseph their big bowling signing of the day.

Spencer Johnson (GT for Rs. 10 crore)

Another big surprise of the day saw Spencer Johnson being in the middle of a bidding war.

GT had to fend off interest from Delhi Capitals to secure the services of Johnson. The Brisbane Heat left-arm pacer had a base price of Rs 50 lakh. GT initially faced competition from Kolkata Knight Riders with the bids going up to Rs 85 lakh. Following this, DC entered the race and took the price all the way to Rs 10 crore.

Sameer Rizvi (CSK for Rs. 8.4 crore)

Uncapped India star Sameer Rizvi triggered a massive bidding war in the IPL 2024 auction, with Chennai Super Kings shelling out Rs 8.40 crore for the right-handed batter.
