Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has lauded Rinku Singh’s talent. Speaking on the sidelines of India’s first T20I match vs South Africa, Gavaskar showered praise on the youngster and said that the batter had the gift of talent. Rinku Singh has had a sensational start to his international career after doing well in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League.
Rinku became a household name after he smashed Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal for 5 sixes in the final over of an IPL 2023 game, guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to a sensational victory. Speaking on Rinku, Gavaskar said that one of the biggest strengths of the batter was that he had a lot of belief in himself.
“Talent – it’s not given to everybody. You can love the game. You can play all day, but sometimes you know you might not quite have the talent, but he has the belief that he could do it, and that’s what he’s done over the last 2-3 years. Again here in the IPL, he was in and out of a lot of teams when he finally got the opportunity and the way he grabbed it (was amazing),” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Gavaskar said that India fans are already comparing Rinku’s ability with one of the most legendary Indian cricketers – Yuvraj Singh. Gavaskar said that the Indian fans expect Rinku to play like Yuvraj Singh.
“And now he’s part of an India team. And now there’s so much, so many high expectations of them. They are now expecting him to be another Yuvraj Singh. Rinku Singh – Yuvraj Singh. So if you can do even a fraction of what Yuvraj did for Indian cricket, then he will have done wonderfully well,” Gavaskar said.
The fans were not able to get a glimpse of Rinku Singh in the 1st T20I. India’s first T20I match against South Africa was washed out due to rain. The match was abandoned without toss at Durban on December 10, Sunday.
