In the ICC World Cup 2023, Kohli delivered a series of record-breaking performances that etched his name in the annals of cricket history. Amassing an unprecedented 765 runs across 11 innings, Kohli set a new benchmark for the highest run tally ever achieved by a player in a single World Cup edition.

His batting average soared to 95.62, and he maintained a strike rate of 90.3. The tournament witnessed Kohli’s mastery with the bat as he notched up three centuries and six fifties, including a pivotal 54-run knock in the final against Australia in Ahmedabad. This feat surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record from the 2003 World Cup. Kohli’s consistent excellence earned him the “player of the tournament” title, despite India falling short of clinching the trophy. His performance included a historic 50th ODI century, breaking yet another of Tendulkar’s records.

Kohli has a sensational record when it comes to playing Tests in South Africa. In 14 innings, the Indian star batter has scored 719 runs at an average of 51.36. During this time, Kohli has scored two hundreds and three fifties as well.

India are yet to win a Test series in South Africa till now and Kallis feels that Kohli will be key if that stat is to change.

Speaking to Star Sports, the Proteas legend said that given the Indian star’s success in the rainbow nation, he would be able to help his teammates. Kallis feels that Kohli will be aiming to get a big series under his belt and will play a major role if India are to beat South Africa for the first time in the rainbow nation.

“He’s a massive player, no matter where it is. Having played here quite a bit and had a fair amount of success. He’ll be able to pass that knowledge on to the other guys, especially the younger guys and give them ideas on how to manage these conditions and then what to expect.”

“I am sure he will want to have a big series here in South Africa. He has been in good form. I think he will play a major role in helping India. If they are to win here, he will have to have a good series,” said Kallis.
