Former legendary Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya to be appointed as Consultant of Island’s Cricket Board’s High Performance Centre (HPC), Cricket Age Exclusively learns. The high profile appointment will be made by the newly arrived Sports Minister Harin Fernando.

Jayasuriya, who revolutionized One Day Cricket with his fearless batting in 90s, had previously served as Chairman of selectors for his country.

“He has had multiple rounds of meetings with SLC CEO Ashley de Silva and Vice President International Cricket Jayantha Dharmadasa and today finally he accepted the offer” an Board Official told Cricket Age.

His appointment as HPC Consultant will be significant as, Tim Maccasil, the Head of the Centre, has messed up the player fitness program and did not conduct timely fitness programs. Tim is also accused of – going outstation to watch even Emerging group tournaments, trying to get the nutritionist to travel with the national team when his services are not required during tours, trying to get involved in selections, allowing HPC coaches to have their own programs and letting them choose their own working times.

Apart from Jayasuriya, former Sri Lanka allrounder Farveez Maharoof is also likely to be appointed at a high profile post soon!
