Afghanistan are set to tour India for a three-match T20I series in January 2024. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the same on November 21.

This is the first time India and Afghanistan will be up against each other in a bilateral series in white-ball cricket, apart from the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and the Asia Cup.

The PCA Stadium Mohali will host the first match of the series on January 11. The second match is scheduled to take place on January 14 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The third and final game will be held on January 17 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Afghanistan recently garnered a lot of accolades following their campaign in World Cup 2023. They defeated England by 69 runs, after which they got the better of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Afghans also got Australia in the mat before Glenn Maxwell turned up with an unbeaten 201-run knock at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai were their leading run-scorers with 376 and 353 runs respectively.

Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah and Rahmanullah Gurbaz also contributed heavily with 310, 320 and 280 runs respectively. Rashid Khan was the pick of their bowlers after he picked up 11 wickets from nine matches at an economy rate of 4.48.

The likes of Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi were also impressive. The Afghans failed to make their way through to the semi-final, but made sure that they qualified for the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025.
