Sri Lanka Cricket suspended by ICC Over Government Interference

In a significant development, the international Cricket Council (ICC) Friday suspended Sri Lanka Cricket with Immediate effect. The decision was by the ICC following a tumultuous week in Lankan cricket.

“ICC determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka” World governing body’s media release reads.

The decision from the game global governing body came in the wake of Island Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe decision to dissolve the Shammi Silva led administration.

By each passing day, the situation worsen following the removal of Shammi Silva led administration and appointment of former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga led Interim committee.

Sports Minister Ranasinghe informed Parliament that the Country President Ranil Wickramasinghe told him to withdraw the appointment of the SLC Interim Committee, if not he would be taking over the Sports Law. Eventually the removal of the present administration was discussed in the parliament even. And then the motion to oust SLC Board was unanimously approved by the Parliament.
