Adam Zampa was over the moon after Australia beat England by 33 runs in the World Cup 2023 match on Saturday, November 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Zampa was the pick of the Australian bowlers after he finished with figures of 10-0-21-3. The leg-spinner got the crucial wickets of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali to put a huge dent on the English batting lineup.

“Yeah, I’d say tonight is as satisfying as it feels after an ODI in terms of my 10 overs. Bowling mainly to lefties; Malan, Stokes, Ali, they’re quality players. And to sit back, knowing that I went for 20 runs off 10 overs, my length control was as good as it’s been, it was a really satisfying one tonight,” Zampa said in the post-match press conference.

Zampa also played a handy knock with the bat, having racked up 29 runs off 19 balls with four fours. He was also involved in a partnership of 38 runs for the ninth wicket with Mitchell Starc, adding to England’s frustration on the field.

Zampa also won the Player of the Match award after Australia won their fifth match in a row in the ongoing mega event on Indian soil.

“Batting innings, really satisfying, it’s probably the most satisfying ODI I’ve ever played to be honest. To be able to contribute with the bat, I mean, Starky and I spoke about trying to take it deep, with still staying fairly positive, because we stuffed it up against New Zealand.

“Probably could have faced another 10 balls or so and got a little bit of a bigger total. But nice to contribute with the bat, it felt good and then the catch, I mean, I am not known as the best fielder in the world, but satisfying to work on stuff and things come off like that, so it’s a good feeling,” he added.

Zampa is currently the leading wicket-taker of World Cup 2023, having taken 19 wickets from seven matches at an economy rate of 5.52 with three four-wicket hauls.
