‘Nothing Really Major to Worry’: Rohit Sharma on Hardik Pandya’s Ankle Injury

Written by Rohit Pawar

Team India captain Rohit Sharma has provided a major update on Hardik Pandya who sustained an ankle injury during a Bangladesh clash in the ODI World Cup match on Thursday. In his first over, Pandya twisted his ankle while stopping a boundary on follow-through, he looked in immense pain and didn’t complete his over.

The BCCI stated that Hardik went for scans during the match, however, he returned to the dressing room at the business end of the innings.

The Indian skipper said that there is nothing major to worry but they will assess him on Friday morning.

“He (Hardik) pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry. We’ll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and then plan on how to go forward,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

Talking about India’s triumph, Rohit was impressed with the bowling and fielding department’s bounce back after Bangladesh had a solid start with a 93-run win.

“It was a good win, something we were looking forward to. We didn’t start well, but the guys pulled it back in the middle-overs and at the back-end. Our fielding has been superb in all these matches, it’s something that’s in your control, you can put in your best effort. The bowlers were smart to understand what lengths to bowl,” he added.

On centurion Virat Kohli receiving player of the match over Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit said you can’t beat a hundred.

“Jaddu was brilliant with the ball and the catch, but you can’t beat a hundred,” he said.

Meanwhile, Team India fielding coach T Dilip has started a new tradition in the camp with the ongoing World Cup. After every match, Dilip points out the players who did well on the field and hands over the best fielder medal to a player.
