Why Sri Lanka Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardene skipped Asia Cup?

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Even though Sri Lanka’s White Elephant Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardene was in the Island when National Team was participating in Asia Cup and eventually dismantled by India in the Final, it was purposefully spreaded to hoodwink public that the former captain has to travel South Africa for a T20 draft, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.

A ruthless India lifted the Asia Cup after routing defending champions Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final with Mohammed Siraj claiming a career-best 6-21, Including four wickets in one hour, at R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday (September 17).

Not only the defeat was embarrassing, but questionable also, due to some tactical blunders from the coaching and support staff! Under clouds, captain Dasun Shanaka opted to bat first! Batters played loose shots and threw their wickets in seaming conditions!

Amid all these, Sri Lanka’s Consultant Coach Mahela, who was supposed to make strategies, was on self decided leave! The reason was given that he has some assignments in South Africa! However, when Cricket Age Inquired, it emerged that Mahela was in Sri Lanka. It turned true, as he was seen with the team during practice session, barely few hours after Asia Cup Final drubbing!

Question is not that why Mahela was not involved in Asia Cup, as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has already declared that he joins, according to his availability!

Question is: why he skipped Asia Cup, which was played just before the 50 Overs World Cup, especially when he was in the country? That too when India, the host of the World Cup, was also one of the participant team? And, why most of the times he skips dressing room, whenever India plays against Sri Lanka?

So, who decides Mahela’s conditional availability? Mr. Austin? And what was the need to spread a lie that messiah is not in the Island?
