England fast bowler Jofra Archer ‘on course’ for World Cup

Injury-prone England fast bowler Jofra Archer is “on course” to play for England at the World Cup in India later this year, his club coach said Wednesday.

“He is going well,” Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace told the BBC. “I think he is on course for the World Cup, which is fantastic news.”

Archer starred when England were crowned World Cup winners on home soil in 2019.

But the 28-year-old has suffered with injuries since, having several elbow operations and suffering a stress fracture of the back.

“He is going nicely,” added Farbrace of the quick who played the most recent of his 13 Tests in February 2021.

He played in the limited-overs tours of South Africa and Bangladesh earlier this year, but his elbow problem flared up again in May and ruled him out of this summer’s Ashes series.

Archer has played 21 ODIs for England, taking 42 wickets with a best performance of 6-40.

The World Cup gets underway in India on October 5 with England facing New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
