Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has said that there will be question marks about whether pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be able to bowl the same way he did following his return from a long-term back injury. The BCCI has confirmed that Bumrah is stepping up his recovery and has started to bowl in the nets.

Speaking to JioCinema, Jaffer said Bumrah is a huge part of India’s bowling attack, adding that there will still be question marks about whether he would be able to bowl the same way. Bumrah has been grappling with a series of injuries over the past few years.

“He is a huge part of the bowling attack. I feel he will have an extremely important role in the World Cup. We are missing him in death bowling. We have missed him this entire year. However, he needs to come back to fitness, and there will be a question mark whether he will be able to bowl the same way, at the same pace,” said Jaffer.

He went on to say that it is extremely for Bumrah to get fit for the ODI World Cup in October. His most recent setback, a back injury, has kept him out of action since September 2022. The injury was severe enough to warrant surgery in New Zealand, which was successful and left Bumrah pain-free.

“He is extremely important, not for one, but all formats. However, keeping the World Cup in mind, he is a very important player. He has won India so many matches in tough conditions. He is a senior player as well. Bumrah will remain the leader of the pack in the World Cup. So it is extremely important for him to get fit,” Jaffer added.

Bumrah is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
