Harry Brook is a talented player but skill is to choose when to hit the shot: Eoin Morgan

Former England captain Eoin Morgan has said that batter Harry Brook is a hugely talented player but the skill is to choose when to hit the shot. Brook was dismissed for four runs in England’s second innings as they look to chase down a 371-run target at Lord’s.

“Harry Brook pushed the button a bit too early in the first innings. He is a hugely talented player as we have seen in Test cricket and has all the shots. But the skill is to choose when to hit the shot. He can learn as the series goes on as the other players have shown,” said Morgan.

Morgan added it was an excellent delivery from Australia captain Pat Cummins to get Brook out in the second innings. Cummins cleaned up Brook after dismissing Joe Root in the same over.

“It was an excellent delivery to get Brook and it held up the slope so you can totally understand why he played the line. But I have to say good bowling and that too early in his innings,” Morgan added.

Meanwhile, former England skipper Kevin Pietersen said Brook has not been too secure against the short ball and Australia used it to their advantage. England needed 257 runs to win at Lord’s while Australia six wickets on the final day of the Lord’s Test.

“If we are the captains of Australia and we have seen the way he (Brook) has had flaps at the short ball and the way he has defended it, it hasn’t been too secure. I agree with Morgan that he (Cummins) could have easily tested him with a Bumper there. But it was genius bowling,” said Pietersen.

England will be looking to get back in the 2023 Ashes series after going 0-1 down after the Edgbaston Test.
