Sri Lanka Cricket SGM: New clubs promoted to Tier B

Written by N Krishnamurthy

At least eight new clubs were promoted to Tier B at the Special General Meeting (SGM) of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) held on June 17, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Passing the annual audit report and rectification of domestic tournament rules were the main agendas of the SGM.

On May 31st Cricket Age had exclusively published that as per Tournament committee’s new circular, a club can register two overseas players but only one will be allowed to play in the match. Earlier, two overseas players were allowed to be Included in the playing XI. In another significant change, now those clubs who don’t have their own grounds, can’t hire International venues for the home matches.

Among the newly promoted clubs, Sarasens SC now belongs to SLC’s vice president International Cricket Jayantha Dharmadasa. Just a day before prior to SGM, Dharmadasa was elected new patron of Saracens SC. Not so surprisingly, Dharmadasa’s long time hangers Priyantha Algama and Shibly Vilcassim were also elected Cricket Secretary and Secretary respectively of the club.

The Clubs, which got promoted:

United Southern
Singhe
Rio
Kandy CC
Moratuwa SC
Old Dharmapalian
Lio SC
Sarasens SC
