Virender Sehwag said that Suryakumar Yadav should be a permanent No.3 batter for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The MI batter started his IPL 2023 campaign with a couple of low scores, but has found his rhythm as the tournament has progressed.

Suryakumar is currently fifth in the list of leading run-scorers in IPL 2023. The right-handed batter has scored 479 runs from 12 matches at an average of 43.54 and a strike-rate of 190.83 with four half-centuries and a century to show for his efforts.

Yadav got his maiden IPL hundred on May 12 when he scored an unbeaten 103 against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sehwag said that Yadav should get to face more deliveries given the form he has been in of late.

“SKY can be the permanent No. 3 for Mumbai Indians because he’s a good player of pace and spin. Although it all boils down to the team management (when it comes to taking such decisions), but I strongly believe he should get to face more balls,” Sehwag said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.

MI’s penultimate league game is against Krunal Pandya’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, May 16 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
