Rajasthan Royals batter Dhurv Jurel has revealed that he was left starstruck when he met former India skipper MS Dhoni for the first time, saying he kept starting at him for five minutes. Jurel has enjoyed a successful campaign with RR, scoring 132 runs at a strike rate of 191.30.

Speaking in a video released by the IPL, Jurel said he was told by his father to control the controllable and work hard, a mantra that he has followed till date. Jurel’s late cameos with the bat have helped RR pick up 10 points from their opening nine matches in IPL 2023.

“There is one thing that my father told me, that I have to go out there and work hard as all we can do is work hard. My father told me just control the controllable, and work hard,” said Jurel.

The 22-year-old said he knew that he would be an Impact Player for RR this season so there was no nervousness regarding his performances. Jurel has register three 30-plus scores in his debut IPL season and has become an impact lower order batter for RR.

“First of all, I knew that I am an Impact Player so I knew I had to go out there and contribute for the team. So there was no nervousness in the back of my mind that I might get out because I trust my practice a lot. So it was just about executing what I did in practice, and just watch the ball and react,” Jurel added.

Speaking about his meeting with CSK skipper MS Dhoni, Jurel said it was a dream come true for him, adding that he kept starting at Dhoni for five minutes when he met him for the first time.
