Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran heaped praise on Shahrukh Khan after their thrilling win over Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday in Lucknow.

LSG put up a total of 159 on the back of skipper KL Rahul’s 74 as the rest of the batters struggled to get going. The PBKS run chase didn’t get off to the best of starts as Yudhvir Singh got two wickets early on.

LSG seemed to have the game in the bag before Sikandar Raza played a brilliant innings to keep the contest alive with his 57. However, the all-rounder’s wicket put the onus on Shahrukh Khan, who had the job to get his team over the line. The Indian batter did just that as he scored 23 off just 10 deliveries and hit the winning runs in the final over as PBKS got the win with three balls to spare.

“Amazing win. I thought our spinners bowled nicely. KG does what he does. Bit of dew came in but the wicket was offering a little for the bowlers. The way Sikandar Raza played was brilliant. And the way Shahrukh finished it, that’s what he’s in our team to do. His role has been clear in our side. Players who can hit sixes from ball one are dangerous,” said Curran.

“You go from ground to ground – different dimensions – have to come up with different gameplans. We’ve got so many options which is lovely to have as a captain. I’ve never done it before. Hopefully Shikhar is fit soon,” said Curran.
