Kolkata Knight Riders cheer up ‘champion’ Yash Dayal after nightmarish last over

Written by Sumit Seth

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were over the moon after Rinku Singh’s heroics took them to victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, the Men in Gold and Purple didn’t forget to leave some words of motivation for Yash Dayal, who had a nightmarish outing.

With KKR needing 29 runs to win in the last over, the odds were in favor of the Titans. But after Umesh Yadav picked up a single to give the strike to Rinku, the complexion of the game completely changed.

Rinku hit five sixes in a row as the Knights snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Thereafter, KKR cheered up Dayal after the latter was taken to the cleaners in the final over.

KKR took to their Instagram handle and wrote, “Chin up, lad. Just a hard day at the office, happens to the best of players in cricket. You’re a champion, @imyash_dayal, and you’re gonna come back strong.”

Rinku Singh won the Player of the Match after he scored an unbeaten 48 with the help of one four and six sixes. Dayal, in the meantime, finished with figures of 4-0-69-0.

Rashid Khan, who stood in place of Hardik Pandya, lauded Rinku for batting to the best of his potential.

“Rinku played some unbelievable shots. He tried his best deliveries, but it did not work. Credit goes to the batter the way he finished,” Rashid said.

The Titans are scheduled to play their next match on Thursday, April 13 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The Knights, on the other hand, will next face Aiden Markram’s Sunrisers Hyderabad, who beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by eight wickets on Sunday.
