Out-of-syllabus question, says Aakash Chopra hailing Ajinkya Rahane’s 19-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians

Former India batter Aakash Chopra has heaped praise on Chennai Super Kings batter Ajinkya Rahane’s knock, saying it was an out-of-syllabus question for Mumbai Indians. Rahane scored the fastest fifty in IPL 2023 to guide CSK to a seven-wicket win over MI at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said Rahane’s knock came as an out-of-syllabus question for MI, while adding that Rahane knew every nook and corner of the ground and playing technically correct shots. Rahane scored 61 runs off 27 balls, smashing seven boundaries and three sixes at the Wankhede.

“Devon Conway got out at the start but after that one-sided. Ajinkya Rahane – out-of-syllabus question. He knows every nook and corner of this ground. He came and hit, and that too in a very technically correct fashion. He said that it might be a 20-over match but 30-plus also do well in that,” said Chopra.

Chopra picked CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as his Player of the Match and said that he broke MI’s back with his bowling performance. Jadeja picked up three wickets and gave away just 20 runs in four overs.

“The reason for Jadeja being my Player of the Match is that it was a pitch where it seemed there would be a lot of help for fast bowlers. But he came and picked up wickets. He dismissed Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green and Tilak Varma. He broke the opposition team’s back,” Chopra added.
