Tennakoon, Paranavithana honoured with lifetime achievement award

Anura Tennakoon, Sri Lanka’s first World Cup captain, and veteran sports journalist Ranjan Paranavithana were recently honoured with life time awards for their outstanding contribution for cricket and sports journalism at Silk Sports award ceremony held in Colombo.

Island’s Sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe, former World Cup winning captain and present chairman of National sports council Arjuna Ranatunga, Olympic medlist Susanthika Jayasinghe also graced the occasion.

ICC Chief Match Referee Ranjan Madugalla, elite panel umpire Kumar Dharmasena, International match referee Vanesa Bowen also recieved the awards.

Widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s great batsmen, Tennakoon also served as Chief Executive of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) from 2000 to 2003.

Paranavithana, meanwhile, has been amongst most prominent Sports Journalists in Sri Lanka for decades! A true servant of Sri Lanka Cricket, he is serving as Junior Selector as well and his grassroot knowledge about School and Junior Cricket is unmatched!
